Gagarine (directed by Fanny Liatard, Jérémy Trouilh) was granted Cannes Label, which means that the film is among the top 50 films which would have been screened at the Festival in Cannes had it taken place (unfortunately, it was cancelled due to the Coronavirus outbreak). Gagarine is set on a huge Cite Gagarin neighbourhood on the outskirts of Paris. It was built at the beginning of the 60’s in honour of the cosmonaut Yuri Gagarin and last year they began its demolition. The film’s action is set right before the demolition, when the residents still believe their homes can be saved. The film’s strength is not only its extraordinary tone, but also the excellent Alseni Bathily as Yuri.
