Delete history, but before you do that, select all images with a store front, change the password (it must contain an uppercase, a digit and a special character), give your rating, start your free trial period (and add your payment card). Benoît Delépine and Gustave Kervern’s new film is a variation on contemporary rituals, a bitter comedy about the French middle-class boomers faced with all promises and threats of the digital age. Three friends – bemused by streaming, betrayed by the myth of the sharing economy, fooled by Facebook – issue a desperate challenge to the sinister Cloud. ‘Delete History’ is rather a collection of sketches than an emotional storyline, but such a form – as if taken from the trending section on YouTube but of undeniably better quality – is a brilliant reflection of the hopeless tremor of the contemporary world.
The Silver Bear winner at this year’s Berlinale is a surprisingly thought-provoking comedy on contemporary Internet rituals. The three friends are fed up with the absurdities of the digital world, so they embark on an uneven fight with the Net’s giants.
